To pass the exam, it is essential to be well-prepared. But it is also important to know what to bring with you on the IMAT test day and what is prohibited in the examination room, as failing to have the required documentation or carrying prohibited items may prevent you from taking the test.
What to bring to the IMAT test
What do you need to bring to the IMAT? First of all, check the location and time of your test. The time to arrive at your test center may be a few hours earlier than the official start time of the IMAT 2024, which is set for 11 AM in Italy. Verify the address in advance to avoid being late. Note the room where check-in or the test itself will take place on your smartphone or on a piece of paper, so you don’t waste time upon arrival.
Here is the list of what to bring to the IMAT 2024/2025 test:
- Valid identification document that includes a clear photograph and your signature. Accepted documents with a photo include ID card, passport, or driver’s license. Copies, photocopies, or scans are not accepted. It is preferable to present the same document used during the registration procedure.
- Non-EU candidates must show their entry VISA, residence permit, or application for it.
- Health card or tax code, required by some universities to facilitate identification.
- Receipt of payment for the test participation fee.
- Receipt of registration on Universitaly sent by email (not all universities require this).
Since the required documents may vary from university to university, as well as the time for arrival, we recommend carefully reading the call for application from the university where you will be taking the test or any notices published on the university’s website.
Additional information: do not bring your photographic ID to your desk. If your photographic ID is displayed on your desk, you will be disqualified.
IMAT Medicine: useful items to bring
What useful items should you bring to the IMAT? There are some non-essential items that could be helpful during the test for admission to the English-taught medical program. Here are some tips:
- An analog watch, as digital watches or smartwatches are not allowed. The watch will help you manage your time.
- A small bottle of water and a snack in case you experience a drop in blood sugar or feel anxious.
- A sweatshirt to avoid getting cold if the air conditioning is on.
- Chewing gum for concentration.
Additionally, consider bringing things you use every day. For example, if you wear contact lenses, bring an extra pair or also take your glasses with you. The same applies to any medications you may need.
IMAT: what is prohibited
What items are you not allowed to bring to the IMAT test? Here’s what is prohibited at the IMAT test and may lead to the cancellation of your exam:
- Pens, pencils, or any other stationery not provided by the exam staff. But, if you are taking the IMAT outside of Italy, you will need to bring a black ballpoint pen.
- Manuals and textbooks, including partial reproductions of them.
- Webcams or similar devices.
- Any reference materials.
- Blank sheets of paper.
- Handwritten notes.
- Mobile phones.
- Smartwatches.
- Smartphones.
- Earphones.
- Tablets.
- PDAs.
As you can see, you cannot bring anything that could be considered as supplementary material to aid your knowledge, under penalty of exclusion from the IMAT test.
